The modern macramè is the rediscovery of the ancient Arabic technique of weaving , revisited in a modern key and back in vogue in recent years, above all thanks to the diffusion of the Bohemièn style.
Today I bring you to the discovery of this fascinating world of interweaving, knots and fringes, talking to Habanamè , a brand created by Ana Margarita , a Cuban-born artisan who lives in Italy, more precisely in Valvasone (PN).
Habanamè was born from the passion for the bohemian style and the objects in macramé , technique that Ana has learned in the years in which she lived in Cuba and who was able to reinterpret to create magnificent objects that strictly intertwined by hand , including its beautiful plant hangers and the decorative tapestries to hang on the walls.
Her creations are all designed, designed and made by her, using mainly natural cotton yarns or dyed with the technique of degradè, rope and sometimes yuta. Some of his works also feature leather , stone and wood inserts, or roots of trees that he collects by the river or along the shores of the sea and to which he gives new life and meaning, incorporating them into his works.
Ana is a sparkling and sunny person like the land she comes from. I had the pleasure of visiting his workshop , which is also the set of magnificent photos that he shoots to his products, to know it and to see where his creations are born, he showed me his works, the materials he uses and we got to exchange a few chats.
He told me that in his activity he also left space for experimentation and the study of new solutions, such as the restoration of old furniture that renews with the insertion of textile parts in macramé .
Among his products, those that I prefer are wall hangers or tapestries, especially those with wooden shelves , which in addition to decorating are also functional. Each one is a unique piece and the motifs that Ana creates by weaving the threads are wonderful, each with its own story and someone inspired by its homeland. Below the article you can see some of his works.
Habanamè does not only offer objects for the home, but also beautiful handbags (which I love), necklaces and earrings, dummy rings and teething rings, key rings, coasters, leashes for dogs and Yoga mat strap, all rigorously made in macramé .
